Egw+dovecot+sieve - conflicting hierarchy separators?

Hi all,

We have been using egroupware Community Version 1.8.001 for quite some time, together with
a postfix+dovecot maildir setup. I recently tried configuring egw to manage dovecot’s sieve rules.
It turned out to be quite a simple operation, except for one issue I can’t seem to find a simple answer to:
when constructing a rule to file a message into a subfolder, egroupware seems to use “/” as
a separator (that is, the folder selector widget yields fol/der/of/choice), where our dovecot sieve setup is expecting dots (".") instead (fol.der.of.choice). Sieve rules are broken as a consequence.
Manually changing the slashes to dots while constructing the sieve rule makes it all work fine,
but this is not something I can expect my endusers to remember.

My guess is that I have to somehow tell egw’s folder selector
to use a specific separator instead of the default one, but I can’t seem to find the right place to do this.

For now, I have modified function editRule() in felamimail/inc/class.uisieve.inc.php.
Changing
$newRule[‘action_arg’] = get_var(‘folder’,array(‘POST’));
to read
$newRule[‘action_arg’] = str_replace(’/’,’.’,get_var(‘folder’,array(‘POST’)));
makes the rule constructor behave as required, but this feels like a messy hack and
I’d certainly prefer a tweak that doesn’t require code modifications.

Is it possible to tell the selectFolder widget to use another separator,
and if so, can someone point out how to do this?
Any pointer to a solution would be great!

reporting that Problem with a 1.8.001 will NOT be investigated. Please
update to current 1.8.006 and report if Problem still exists there.

Updating to 1.8.006 is strongly recommended anyway, because of contained
security fixes!

Hi Ralf,

Thanks for your quick reply and for the update recommendations.

I downloaded Community Version 1.8.006 from the repository,
installed it on a replacement server and got that to work with the same
dovecot imap server.
I believe I can confirm that the “problem” persists in this newer version.

Specifically: when constructing a sieve rule that files messages into a subfolder of the imap hierarchy,
the folder selector widget creates a filename with / as the separator, and this / makes it into the sieve rule,
while the hierarchy separator our dovecot-sieve seems to expect is a dot instead of a slash.
The rule inserted by egw then throws an error, because it doesn’t find the folder the rule refers to.

As stated before: if one explicitly changes the slashes to dots in the rule construction dialog,
the rule is correctly stored in the sieve script, and everything works OK.
I have the impression that the sieve rule constructor does not take into account the separator used by the
imap server itself, but maybe I’m just overlooking a configuration option that does exactly that.
