Egroupware Development

Hi,
First of all, sorry for my bad english.
I’m a student of Informatic Engineering in Milan (Italy)
I’m finishing my studies and I should make a project for my thesis
(synchronization with standard agendas).
I should develop some applications for Egroupware, in particular
clients’ synchronization (pc, palm and mobile).
For example, I should fix the problem with delete a date in egroupware
and synchronize it with client.
I ask you if you have some suggests, utilities and materials that can
help me, because I’m reading the codes, but I don’t understand a lot…
I’ll really thank you and…I could develop your great project Egroupware!

Hi Enzo,

you should search the wiki http://www.egroupware.org/wiki
e.g. try for sync-ml
there are some docs there, too about how to contribute to egroupware.
I am mostly using egroupware, not developing, so I can’t tell you much about the code
As far as I remember there was the idea to iplement SyncML1.2

perhaps this already helps you in some way

As far as I remember there was the idea to iplement SyncML1.2

Yeah, implementing support for SyncML 1.2 would really help since some
clients support only this (e.g. one Samsung phone I saw).

This would also make a fine subject for a thesis project.

SyncML 1.2 is coming soon.

I have ported the current version of Horde’s SyncML framework to egw
over the past few weeks. It supports syncml 1.2 and works quite nicely.

I have still some fixes for this code as my testing progresses but so
far I have succesfully used the following devices:

outlook with funambol 6.5
pocket PC / smartphone with funambol 6.5
iphone with the experimental plugin from funambol.org (version 0.7)
(only contacts are synced so far, and there are still a few issues)
thunderbird with the funambol syncml plugin (contacts only)
nokia e65 in both syncml 1.1 and syncml 1.2 (task synchro with
calendar item is not here yet)

I am testing blackberrys and palm devices with the nexthaus plugins
next. I also tested the nexthaus plugin for iphone but so far it does
not work.

I’ll commit everything in egw 1.5 when the testing is sufficient.

1.6 ? The changes are sufficiently self contained that this code really
has to be committed before 1.6 goes out. So I’ll make sure that happens.

Hi Patrick,

I doubt a bit, that SyncML/Horde is self contained from the rest of eGW.

Specially the CalDAV stuff, I’m working on currently, uses the Horde
iCal stuff and the eGW handlers for Addressbook, Calendar and InfoLog.

I’m planning for a first RC in June (can’s say beginning or end of June
currently).

My plans are to use the app handlers directly for
GroupDAV/CalDAV/CardDAV (as I already do for Addressbook) and no longer
the iCalServer stuff, to have only a single codebase for all our
iCal/vCard stuff.

If you need more testing, maybe a branch for the phpgwapi/inc/horde and
syncml would allows us to test against the same codebase.

Could you revise the sync of contacts when using ldap adressbook and ldap users?

No can’t do that. My setups (both production and test) all use the SQL
backends for the addressbook. The SyncML code seats above the storage
methods and should be fairly independent of what is used below, but I
don’t have the time nor the resources to test LDAP backends for the
addressbook. You will have to do that yourself.
