Hello all... New dev monkey to the list

So hopefully my question won’t by out of place, being that I did read
the ‘Where to post what questions’ info. After much consideration I figured
this would be the place to get the answer the quickest and to be because I am
a developer looking to give back to a community that has given so much to
me… anyway, the question.

I am in the US. Our dates are formated:

Address Line 1
Address Line 2 (If Exist)
City, State, Zip(-(+4))
Country (Most of the time this isn’t here, but this is where it goes)

I am looking to change this or at least add an option to switch the layout to
this view for the US and other places that may use a similar view.

After a few hours of reading code, then some docs, I came to the eTemplates
info. Unfortunately, I am completely up to speed on XML yet. Before I go
treading through more than, I believe I saw a number, 400,000 lines of code
to find it, is eTemplates what I need to use to change the Address rows in
the Address book? And what if so what is the ‘et_name’ in the 'egw_etemplate’
table in the DB for the template that would need to be changed for the rows
and the headers.

Oh and I also fixed a small thing that slightly annoyed me… All uppercase
countries. I am not sure why you all decided to do that, I hope that I didn’t
break anything, but if you want the copy of the file, I can send it to you.

The last thing I found that is kinda small but I have quite a bit of free time
and don’t mind fixing is is ‘Organisation’ is spelled wrong, even in the code
and the DB. It is supposed to be Organization.

Hi Erik,

changing the template yourself with some quick etemplate- clicking is quite different from coding a new feature, which allows you to choose different template-layouts. Imho there it hasn’t be implemented yet to use different templates for different countries.

How to use etemplate: imho don’t bother about xml as long as you only want to change small things. etemplate is a egroupware app. Use it and edit templates like addressbook.index.rows or addressbook.edit … There are some how-tos available for etemplate

Of course the changes you do only affect your local install, but check it out first before trying to change some official code (as far as im concerned, and i am no developer)

about Organizations: which language did you chose? it Organisations in british english. You can edit the langfile using the translation tools.

Have a look in addressbook/inc/class.bocontacts.inc.php, line 1078,
addr_format_by_country().

I’m pretty sure US is the same as CA, which I confirm as working rev
24815+:

City / Province / Postal Code
Country

I’m not sure if you want to enforce 5[+4] postal codes in addition to
this, which might take more work.

Okay, that’s what I figured.

Of course the changes you do only affect your local install, but check it

concerned, and i am no developer)

I am aware that the changes I make to my local install and I am using the code
I have changed, so I will most likely see any thing that I screwed up unless
it was a bug that was already there to begin with. After I am confident that
what I have modified (hopefully for the better) is stable I will offer the
modifications to the head developers for a merge into the code base.

Cool,

I’ll check it out, and your right, I don’t care about enforcing the Zip+4
postal code considering most ppl don’t even know what that is yet anyway.
