Hi,
as I see it, too, the question of the vote is quite manipulative, too.
Don’t let people let vote on things, they really don’t want to. And if enough people abstain form voting it is not clear if you need 50% of all votes or 50% of the Yes-No votes (constitution doesn’t tell anything about this).
On the other hand side, I don’t want a takeover, neither. The own domain, the press-lease, the own forum and the ege1.x bashing, the rejection to new old-gew style developers make me really feel this way.
The offer off the relationship between tine and egw was fair enough, in fact it contains everything, tine people can claim. They can still post experiences on the egw-developers list, if those experience are not just egw-bashing and sending lots of links to the tine-site.
There is still the possibility to vote for tine to become the new egw2.0 base say in about half a year, when there is something more than a tree on the left and a table on the right in tine (okay, that wasn’t very nice, but this is the way I see it).
The situation at the moment can’t get worse, all the developers have to spend more time in the discussion list, damaging the project, than developing. And the two project are in fact already seperated. Does anybody think, there is a way to “everybody please come together and be nice” without creating a clear relationship between tine and egw now? Imho the seperation is the only way to go and it is only making the status quo official.
For the reasons of the single-handed actions by tine developers (press release, own site, own forum, bashing egw1.x) a decision of the elected admins of egw would be more than justified, to exclude tine from egw according to the relationship statement.
Admins, take your responsibilty and decide. Perhaps I have the wrong impression. My impression is, that most people don’t want to vote and that there is nobody organising the vote, and that people think the vote should hide a decision you already made. Admin said “you people don’t want to vote” I think, you don’t want to take the full responsibility of your decision.
I know, tine developers, didn’t want to damage the project, they just think, that the way to code egw completely new, is the right way to go. This can only be decided, if they can prove that they can (or it is possible to) develop all the needed applications in a acceptable time span (not to talk about migration, which is big issue, too).
In a new project, they can do what they want. And in a few month, there will be a new discussion with new experience on both sides.
But this far please:
no bashing the other, a stop for some time (e.g. two month) for new votes, which stirr things up (remember who started this voting, idea, it wasn’t the admins)
base: the relationship statement published
I think the developer of tine should have to possibility to post tine-status mails from time to time on the dev-egw list ( this is okay, with relationship statement, too)
A very good X-mas to all Frank
