Hello there,

Have tried for some time to install this excellent program, but cant get it to work. Have tried two different guides, both the book I’ve bought about Egroupware and the guide on www.siteground.com Have followed them excatly at least 5 times each, and cant get it work.

Could someone please help me.

We could try to help, but it would also help if you could let us know how far
you managed to get and which guide you have been using?

Can you provide the full URL to the guide on that website?
The site itself is for a hosting company.

If you’re using MySQL for the database, then you don’t need the other Database
connectivities.
However, you are using several other packages on your system.
I would start by installing those.

Btw, you still haven’t told us which guide you were actually using to start
with.

I fail to recognize the questions here.

In order to get answers or help on a mailing list you should ask
specific questions.

If implied questions was: what’s wrong with the installation check:

you have to solve issues with a red cross
you should solve issues a yellow flash, unless you have a good reasons
not to (eg. you use MySQL as database, and so do NOT need Postgres drivers)

All that is described in setup documentation, linked in the left menu,
when you run the installation check.

Sorry my questions seems to vanished when I inserted my pictures.

I will this time use webbased documentation, because the book I bought
supports ver 1.4 and guide on www.siteground.com seems to support ver 1.6.

My question is mostly about Pear, I have put Pear folder in the egroupware
folder on the site but still i get flash on the check installation test.

The major errors (two of them) I will try to correct now.

original) PEAR package. As written in the error message: it’s usually

I managed to fix the problem with JpGraph, thank you for the help.

But I can’t fix the problem with Pear it seems.

Let me first take you through what I have done so. I have followed the stages from the manual on pear.php.net

Created a folder named “pearstart” outside my public accessible web space
Changed permissions on the folder to 0777
Uploaded a copy of go-php.php in a folder named “pearone” in the public accessible area
Browsed to go-php.php in webbrowser
Installation starts without problems
Here is the problem:
Preparing installer…
could not acquire shared lock
(/www/webvol4/xz/3nviorirl1wepdm/futurumit.se/pearstart/PEAR/.lock)

Cant get passed this. Can you help me with this?

Next question:
If I managed to install it, where should I put the folder and what should it be named?

That’s question has nothing to do with EGroupware, you should ask on
PEAR or PHP lists.

I would check if that path exists and is writable by the user running
the installer (eg. webserver user, if called that way).

You’re not dumb, I’ve installed a ton of opensource like Joomla, forums, other, Tiger, etc and this one was the most challenging for me. I know Siteground will install for you and I think for free(?) if not for a nominal charge, but if you install yourself take it a step at a time and knock out the errors one at a time by searching for the errors your getting 9 times out of 10 it’s happened to someone else and the answer has been posted. Now with that said I’m about to see how challenging of an upgrade 1.8 is!

But I am stuck on PEAR, can’t get it installed. The guide at pear.php.net is very sparse and not for newbies, and I can’t find any other guide. No response at PEAR forum either, the forum is not very active.

For the first RED X timezone add this to your PHP.ini file (look up your timezone by the link privided in the egroupware check install
date.timezone = America/Los_Angeles

For the Pear you need two “installed” (basically uploaded to the egw-pear directory):

AUTH_SASL
http://download.pear.php.net/package/Auth_SASL-1.0.4.tgz (download here)

XML_FEED PARSER
http://download.pear.php.net/package/XML_Feed_Parser-1.0.4.tgz (download here)

me being a noob I use filezilla and take these tgz files and unzip them (use 7zip) and you actually have to do them twice it’s like their double zipped (again not an expert but I jump through the hoops i know)

once you unzip them upload tot he egw-pear director to where it looks like this:

Once done check installation and you should have green check marks for all these items. The blind leading the blind here but I hope this helps. : )

With Siteground do you have to tell the server to run in PHP 5 via a php.ini or htacess file?

Don’t have it on Siteground just read their guide. Have it on a swedish server since i live there. But to your answer your question they have PHP 5.2.5 and MySQL 5.0

Something is missing, you’ll have to work through it. When I was stumped on Pear installing 1.6 I just installed the whole pear and used Pear to install the missing items.

I know with 1and1 they by default the run php 4 so I have to do a .htaccess and php.ini in every folder to make it work in php 5.x
