LDAP Addresses Book

Hi,

We always use the regular Addresses Book on SQL db but is it possible to
use LDAP instead of DB with the ability to manage groups and categories
and share the LDAPs bases on Thunderbird mail clients ?

Yes., you can use the setup to migrate contacts and users form SQL to LDAP

Yes, with thunderbird at least, you can add an LDAP addressbook in the Thunderbird Addressbook, just only give the ldap search base, and the ldap authentication

Recently I have completed a tutorial where I have shown practically how
to integrate KAddressbook and Thunderbird address book
with egroupware addressbook based on LDAP.

The tutorial has a no. of screen shots for easy clarification.

Thunderbird Addressbook, just only give the ldap search base, and the ldap

If you plan to use Apple Addressbook you should know about one grave bug
with LDAP and SSL in Apple AB:
If you check the SSL switch it changes to use Port 636 (which actually is
LDAP via SSL) but tries to use LDAP with STARTTLS. So you have to enable
LDAP with STARTTLS on the regular port 389 on the LDAP server and change
the port setting to use LDAP via this port.
Very nasty and took me an hour to find out. Thanx Apple.
