MyDMS, File manager, and Wiki

Greetings,

I am evaluating eGroupWare to see if it is suitable for managing information about experimental data in a research lab environment. Typically, this data consists of one or several data files accompanied by explanatory metadata in the form of emails or text files or PDF/Word files. So it is desirable that the user be able to place the data set somewhere on a server’s file system, then upload the accompanying metadata to a collaborative document management system where it can be further edited or appended to.

My questions regarding eGroupware are the following:

Is it possible to make a link in the wiki that points to a document in MyDMS, or a file in the File manager?
How should I go about making a form that allows the user to specify a file (from the local filesystem), and some basic information about that file (author, comments, keywords), and then it uploads the file to MyDMS or the file manager, and creates a page for that file in the wiki?

OK… how is this done today in 1.6.003
I uploaded a file (file.doc) in Filemanager as user EOT
then I tried to acess it in a Wiki page with vfs:/home/EOT/file.doc
and it did not work…
the access URL looked like this…
http:///egroupware/webdav.php/home/EOT/file.doc
and just gave me a blank page in browser.

Where did I go wrong?

Nothing in the error.log for the Get and the entry for the Get in the access log looks correct.

Do you have an HTTP Status of 500 or 200 in your access log.

If it’s 500, you need to configure PHP to log errors.
If it’s 200, what is the length of the request (in access log), maybe
the file is empty (because an error in uploading it).

How would you provide for this need in eGroupware?
I want to allow some key people in the company to be able to upload files
to egroupware, then be able to use these files (point to them in Wiki and front page, eg)
with known pathnames. It is near impossible to figure out what a pathname is for files in myDMS or Filemanager.
My thought is to have a User or Group with these key people in it that allows uploaded files to a known pathname
for using in HTML and/or Wiki pages.

You would use a group directory for that, and the path is quite easy to
build: http(s)://domain.com/egroupware/webdav.php + /home/groupname/xxx

The commercial EPL version (www.stylite.de/EPL) replaced the
file-selection dialog of CK editor with an own version, able to browse
EGroupware’s VFS and automatically insert the right URL.

I keep trying to convince my boss (company President) to go with your commercial version hosted at our site.
Not quite there yet.
