Hi Robert,
EGroupware’s openSUSE build server repository for Ubuntu 10.04 includes
now rebuild PHP packages from Ubuntu 10.10 (PHP5.3.3).
See www.egroupware.org/download for instructions on how to use the repo.
Please test them and let me know if they fix your issues.
I will then announce the availability of the packages and add them to
the 1.8 release notes.

I have filed Bug #739121with Ubuntu Launchpad asking that php 5.3.3 be
backported to Lucid, Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. If you had problems using the php
included in Ubuntu 10.04 please add your experience to the bug. Maybe
they will listen and backport php 5.3.3 to th LTS version and save some
a lot of trouble.
