We have been providing an integration of Jitsi in EGroupware4 for almost a year now. In 2020, we also provided a free Jitsi server for EGroupware community users with our partner IONOS1. This server is no longer available and we have switched installations to meet.jit.si1 via EGroupware update. Other Jitsi servers can be chosen at will:

A few weeks ago we switched off our own Jitsi server for our hosting customers in favour of a SaaS server from KiwiTalk3.

Since we are very satisfied with the partner and the operation of this Jitsi server, we would like to recommend this service provider and its offer here.

Running your own dedicated Jitsi server offers some advantages (see flyer5):

  • One can estimate the capacities
  • You don’t have to share with others (no bottlenecks)
  • You have a contact person
  • Software maintenance is taken over
  • Optimal configuration
  • Monthly notice periods
  • Short provision time
  • …

Price-wise, the servers are very attractive. Especially if you compare the commercial offers of the “market leaders”. Where even two organisers (authorised to invite to conferences) cost as much as the smallest KiwiTalk server… With a Jitsi server, anyone can invite to conferences.

KiwiTalk Jitsi servers are located in Germany and offer a (configured) high level of security. Especially in Europe, the requirements of the GDPR can thus be met.

Please also see the FAQ on KiwiTalk. Here, some important features of the service and the individualisation options are listed.

The integration into EGroupware is also nicer: by using a JWT token, the avatars and names are also transferred/used.

:warning:
KiwiTalk operates the servers in Germany. For video conferencing systems, the server should not be located too far away. So it probably only makes sense to book KiwiTalk in Germany or the neighbouring countries (or Europe).
If in doubt, try it out!
