The survey has closed, I’ll share some interesting (to me)
statistics. The summary follows, but it’ll be a little garbled. It
was anonymous, so I can’t ask followup questions. Maybe I’ll make
another one someday with some more in-depth questions.
Average downloads: about 175 / month for the past year
Last release: August 2, 2007
Total number of list subscribers: 36 (invited to participate)
Total number of responses: 6 (including me)
You all use the General Ledger, even if you don’t know it, or look to
see what’s there.
I was surprised to see use of Inventory and Sales Orders so high, with
half of you being IT consultants.
I was shocked to see how many use HR and Payroll, considering how
poorly documented they are.
Your most requested things to work on: #1. Packaged release
Consider SVN HEAD to be a release candidate, with a release not too
far behind eGW 1.6.
#2. Easier installation
Please check out the Setup Wizard. It needs to be made friendlier, so
send your suggestions.
#2. Examples
Sorry, we do have plans (see the domain dropdown on the demo site),
but time is lacking.
Tom is organizing these, and once set up they will be automatically
reset on a regular basis, so they will be working examples, rather
than just people messing around.
#2. Make HR work
It should run without errors now. I’m open to discussion on what else
it needs. I’ve added the ability to define custom fields, but if
there are some that are common across all countries, they can be
included.
#2. Better documentation
Need more resources. Talk to Tom about how you can best help him out.
If needed, someone can create (or rip off from wikipedia) some
helper / flag templates, and just flag the parts that need updating,
even if you don’t know what it should be. Of course, if it says
something wrong or outdated, and you do know what it should be, fix it.
I haven’t figured out the best way to get mediawiki to do multiple
languages. Neither has anyone else. There are several different
methods, I just don’t know what will work. I’m leaning toward
appending the language code to the end of the page (Sales_Orders/es),
which should hopefully keep the structure in sync between languages.
