Error with second step of install. Please help

Hi,

I’m having trouble install eGroupWare. I have installed XAMPP and
verified that it is working. I then installed eGroupWare to the
/opt/lampp/htdocs directory. I then pointed my browser to
http://localhost/egroupware and saw the initial setup screen.

I went through eGroupWare’s inital setup screen and everything was ok.
I then went through the create header screen. A header file was
created but the setup screen said that it did not have rights to
create the file so that I was to take the file and rename it
header.inc.php and put it in the correct spot.

So I put it in the eGroupWare root directory at
/opt/lampp/htdocs/egroupware. I then was sent back to the first
screen but I got the following error:

Warning: include (./header.inc.php) function include failed to open
stream: Permission denied in
/opt/lampp/htdocs/egroupware/setup/inc/functions.inc.php on line 26

Would someone mind telling me what I have done wrong.

Thanks

Alex

I am following the setup instructions exactly.

What would be the right permissions etc for this file?

Thanks

Alex

Hi,

well I tried to fugure out under which account Apache is running. I
took a guess that www-data was right. So I ran:

chown www-data:www-data egw/
chmod 700 egw/

then I restarted the web server.

Now I get an error:

Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access /egroupware/login.php on this
server.

Obviously I picked the wrong user. Can you tell me how to pick the
correct user?

I’m running XAMPP. I thought that would simplify things. It was pretty
hard to start but so far no luck with eGroupWare.

Thanks,

when I ran that command I got:

acolic 12443 9215 0 12:58 pts/0 00:00:000 grep apache.

So I ran:

chwon acolic egroupware/
and
chmod 700 egroupware/

and I still get that forbidden access error.

Did I follow the steps correctly?

Well no luck. I ran the command within each directory. Every file says
that acolic is the owner.

I still get a forbidden access when I try to access the
/setup/index.php page.

Any idea of figuring out what user apache things should have access to
this page?

If you actually got only that single line it means that no apache web
server is running!

try to modify/rename/delete .htaccess from the egroupware directory.
False settings can cause your problem.

Not necessarily, apache runs as httpd.
If “httpd” is not in a subdirectory called “apache” or it is run without
its complete path, grep wouldn’t find it.
try ps -ef |grep httpd instead.

Thanks I got the second step working. Looks like changing the
permissions worked.
