"

I dont write english well, because i am a men from CHILE

PD: today I am going to install version RC3

Hi Pcamposs,

Oracle support needs some work in that area. The names used for indexes
are to long. The names get genearted in the schema_proc class. At the
moment we support 2 forms to generate it:

  • a long form using table and all column names used by most dbms
  • a short form used by MaxDB and Oracle

Unfortunally Oracle is even more limited in that aspect.

I dont have time to work on it :frowning:

The algorithm must generate a reproducable name (when you ask it the
next time for an index-name for table x and colums y,z it must give the
identical name).

If you can fix it, I’m happy to apply the patch.

Hi Everybody!

I’m looking to get egroupware working in Oracle.

To acomplish the target I’m expect to do so in smaller steps:

  1. Schema Proc
    • change the schema to generate index, etc… no more than 30 characters.
    • Fix the default date TO_DATE in predetermined dates
  2. Change table names with more than 30 characters
  3. Change the reserved names fields of tables:
    • access, resource, … and document this for new developments
Firsts the api, then all aps

I’m trying to fix the dafaul dates now (Ex. Table egw_vfs):
vfs_created D NOTNULL DEFAULT TO_DATE(‘1970-01-01’,‘YYYY-MM-DD’)
Table egw_vfs, with adodb function dbdata from 1970-01-01 we get
TO_DATE(‘1970-01-01’,‘YYYY-MM-DD’), it is OK for oracle!
Then we call to the function CreateTableSQL (adodb-datadict.inc.php)
with the correct format.
The function call to the _GenFields function that uses the
Lens_ParseArgs function to strip the table fields definition.
Lens_ParseArgs convert TO_DATE(‘1970-01-01’,‘YYYY-MM-DD’) in two items:
TO_DATE and ‘1970-01-01’,'YYYY-MM-DD’
Then _GenFields only treat TO_DATE and the table is not created.
vfs_created DATE DEFAULT ‘TO_DATE’ NOT NULL

I was spent many hours triing to understand the Lens_ParseArgs
function on adodb-datadict.inc.php to solve the problem, without
results. I’m not a php expert, I need a little help in this please!

Many Thanks in advance.

Hi Jose,

good to hear someone is working again on Oracle support.

I still have some mail, with investigations and errors of an other
developer who worked some time ago on oracle support. I forward them to
you direct.

As far as I know, the basic installation of api and core apps is already
working.

Some recommendations to make it easier to have your patches accepted:

  • work on a cvs checkout of the HEAD branch and update it regularly
  • if you have working steps, send them to me to commit them and allow
    other people to test it

If everything goes well, we might be able to integrate it in a
maintainnace release of the 1.2 in may 2006.

Do we have table-names with more then 30 chars? Dont think so. Problems
were the generated index- and sequence-names.

  1. Change the reserved names fields of tables:
    • access, resource, … and document this for new developments

There is already some documentation about that topic in our wiki.
Unfortunately documenting it does not change the code  All new
applications, most of the standard applications and the api uses now a
short table prefix in every column-name (eg. cat_id).

Firsts the api, then all aps

I’m trying to fix the dafault dates now (Ex. Table egw_vfs):

As far as I know, you can just remove that default, VFS does not rely on
it. Maybe one of the other apps do, but I doubt it a bit.

vfs_created D NOTNULL DEFAULT TO_DATE(‘1970-01-01’,‘YYYY-MM-DD’)
Table egw_vfs, with adodb function dbdata from 1970-01-01 we get

hi jgordor,

i just downloaded egw 1.2 and like to use it with oracle 10g.
it would be fine to save some time if you could share your experiences with
me.

i also found a post of noway-1 in the german forum, who told about
modifications of the tabledefinitions, which took him a day work.

do you know other people working with egw and oracle ? - prehaps we can
share our knowledge and get some progress in the oracle support of egw as
ralf said, that he doesn’t have the time for it.

Hi,

I’m waiting for the 1.2 stable release to begin send little patches,
oh!! just now!

Congrats for the release to all people involved

Ralf mail me some work made from Paul Ritchey, Paul is currently
unavailable for work with this.

I document the changes that Paul and I view in
http://www.freemindsystems.com/oracle/ , tomorrow I will recheck a cvs
instal.lation (if sf anon cvs work) and begin to work. If you are
interested mail me private to organize the work.

Thanks and congrats for the release again!
