Request for Assistance on Sitemgr

Can anybody out there spare a couple of minutes to talk to me about
basics of sitemgr?

Hi,

Read this first.
Play around a while and see, how it is working.
It’s cool, easy (depends on of course

If you have explicit question, that could help to give you hints.

István

István,

What am i reading first? I have tried and not getting too far. I am
an application person not a programmer. I am looking to build a
simple page that has bookmark links, calendar, and calls to
contacts.

Can i do this all from Sitemgr or do i need to get at a lower level?

Thanks in Advance,

Gary

Hi Gary,

Knowing PHP or programming does not necessary to creating simple pages.

Short:
There are modules, which are ready-to-deploy, for example:

  • html module: you can write your content with the built-in WYSIWYG
editor (I only use it most of cases)
  • navigator module: here you can browse your pages, your site hierarchy,
    you will need it.

Terms:
Your site built up with pages. Pages organized in categories, pages.
A category can contain other categories or pages.
Page only contains pages.

You have header, footer, left side, right side and the main content area.

Steps:

  • you have to Define a website. Add a user, who will manage it.
  • You have to configure it (name, etc.)
  • Now you can edit your site.

If you think, you are ready with your pages/site, select published state.

I try to make a short video tutorial now and I will put to my homepage.
It will be an ad-hoc, just to show, how it is working.

Regards,
István

István,

Again, thanks for taking the time to handle my post. I made some
headway with the sitemgr and hit a brick wall with some error
messages which i dont have a clue what to do with.

I am not sure i would feel confortable working with these applications
in a production environment. No place to go when it breaks. I am
curious to know what skills are required to support these
applications. Are these applications in production environments. It
seems to me that some sort of hosted solutions with support would be a
good thing to drive up demand for the applications. I love what i saw
of the applications but dont have the time to work my way through with
them.

I did just order the one book i saw out there on eGW. I think i will
have to go in another direction at this time. Thanks for your help.
