Address Book Categories XML RPC

Hi,
I’m trying to get a list of contacts filtered by category from the database using XML RPC. I’ve read the docs and even the source code, but I can’t figure out how to search for contacts under a given category. It seems easy to do given the database schema, but I’m not sure the RPC api even supports this. Does it? If it doesn’t would you advise me adding some methods to my companies eGpW install?
Any tips will be much appreciated.

Fixed the problem. The docs are actually incomplete/incorrect. If you want to filter by a certain category, simply set the ‘filter’ field in the XML-RPC doc to something in the form of ‘=,=’. For my particular problem, I just set the ‘filter’ field to ‘cat_id=[id of the category]’. You can get the id of the category from the egw_categories table or by using the RPC method to list the categories. You can also search for contacts under multiple categories by just making a comma separated list of cat_ids as follows:

‘cat_id’=‘23,142,142’
