Hi!
I’m just setting up an egroupware installation for a local club. It’s
really a problem how I should set up the accounts versus the members who
are only in the addressbooks.
Like many clubs, this one also knows two “levels” of users: Those who
are regular “Members” (with all privileges) and those who are allowed to
assist as “Workers” (with limited access). *)
Sure, the “Members” shall see each other’s addresses, while the
"Workers" shall not see all the “Members” addresses. Still, I could live
with this backdraw because we sure need to trust the “Workers” to some
extend. Here I can add some visibility help by category colors.
Additionally, there are some persons, which are currently not part of
the regular club life but who are in the club’s addressbook. They rent
rooms and have events in the calendar, where they are added as a
participant from the addressbook.
Now, when the person will become a regular member of the club, a new
profile must be created. This will not take the existing address data
from the address book but this data must manually be copied, which is
"not so nice". Also, all existing links (and event participations) will
not be usable, such that the user will see the events in the calendar (I
cant’ even see a way to filter for the addressbook user’s events).
The pain will be gone after max. 1.5 years when the following year is
planned but the “Create Account from Addressbook” would really be much
better, keeping all existing links, entries and events.
… opened for discussion…
Best regards,
Hans-Jürgen
P.S.: In my thought for the future, the user’s should also show up in
the addressbook of their default group (usually the “Default” group).
The addressbook application (setup). What’s technically or from the
professional user’s side the problem with this solution?
*) Don’t discuss the naming, it’s just a bad translation of the example.
