Hi All,

My mobile provider has sent me a HTC Desire, so I’ve been trying it out
with the Synthesis SyncML software and eGW.

I have the same problem, that others have reported, that eGW events
appear on the phone just fine, but events created on the phone vanish
after sync.

It’s also disappointing that Google haven’t put a Tasks/To-Do
application on the phone. However, the Synthesis app does show them. And
can notes be synced?

Does anyone have Android/eGW events sync working correctly, not
necessarily with Synthesis?

(Or should I just stick to my Nokia N97 that works just fine)

I’m not sure if this is an option for you or not, but I encourage you to
try out the CalDAV & CardDAV clients by Marten Gajda:

In EGroupware trunk, Ralf Becker has committed some changes with allow
these two applications to work flawlessly.

In egw, under syncml options, you can define which part of the
synchronization “wins” (device or server). You have to change it to
’merge’ for the calendar (don’t know exactly how it is called, my egw is
in german).

The Synthesis app brings its own task-“store”, or can sync tasks with
the Astrid app (which I recommend you).

And notes get synced well too with Synthesis.

Yes, it does pretty good with the Synthesis app.

Yes its Merge in the English version and that is how mine is set.

Thanks Yann,

I’m still getting vanishing appointments. Egw is 1.8.001 (this is a test
system - not production), Android is 2.3.3, Synthesis is 2.2.13.

In Synthesis the Events Sync Mode is Normal, path is ./calendar

I’m using https.

Do you have similar versions/settings?

Hello.
With my android froyo I use funambol 10.3 (it’s note the one in the
android market, it is a different branch) to sync eg with it. Works with
contacts, calendar. Tasks is supported by installing astrid and notes too
by installing Open Intent Notes. Synchronization however does not support
categories, which can bring you to duplicated entries when you sync back.
So far I’m quite satisfied with it, but the amount of my data isn’t such
big. Later versions of android may still work, but tasks and notes aren’t
supported by newer funambol clients. Mind that v 10.3 is still
experimental, and that notes and task will not be ported to the main
branch of funambol due to code changes in android (at least for the moment)

Since these applications are not free I’m wondering if a valid CA approved certificate is required (for the server) or even self-signed is accepted?

do not worry it support self-signed certificates very well.

I’m using both with my self-signed SSL cert.

When you’ll configure marten gajda’s caldav/carddav sync apps (dmfs.org) they will tell you that the certificate is not trusted.
It 'll show the certificate and it will ask you to accept that certificate or decline it.

So do not worry about it.

If i remember well the google play store give you 15 minutes to try any app. If you remove the app in 15 mins you 'll get no costs. i think 15 mins will be sufficient to test this apps.

p.s. One more thing the only problem it’s that, i think, there is no way to sync infolog/notes with your android phone.

The validation of certificates is delegated to the os, and is normally
not part of the apps.

I don’t know how it does now, but with Android 2.2 self-signed
certificates were refused and also certificates from some CAs, that
otherwise (Firefox, IExplore, etc.) were getting accepted.

I remember having lost my time with a free certificate from StartCom,
that didn’t work with Android, but did perfectly in current web
browsers. May be there are accepted by Android now.
