Apache 80-90%

I am a newbie in the linux environment. I have installed all requirements for egroupware (mysql5,apache2, php5) on ubuntu server 7.10 and got it up and running but as soon as i try accessing it remotely thru another client its very very slow when i hit top on the server it shows as apache usage as 90+% (even though there is only one client accessing it). My server has 4gb ram good processor and hardware i believe is not the prob here. I dont know why apache is so slow. I would appriciate some help.Its kinda urgent Thanks in advance

adding on to what i have stated yesterday of the high usage of apache. i have checked the error log file of apache and found the following waring quiet a few times

warning:mb_strstr() expects parameter 1 to be string,array given in /usr/share/egroupware/phpgwapi/inc/class.html.inc.php on line 921, referer: http://10.0.0.7/egroupware/login.php

I really dont know if this is related or the cause of the slow running of apache. Somebody please help.
