Hi David,
Ralf, All,
I’m making a push to test 16, and hopefully move from 1.8 to 16. In the install
notes (README.md), I find:
distribution package manager
-
add a line /path/to/egroupware/.mrconfig to your ~/.mrtrust, to allow
running composer.phar and git clone -b 16.1
- mr up
-
enable further / non-default EGroupware apps by uncommenting them in
.mrconfig and run mr up
I’ve checked and both composer and mr are repository management type tools. Are
these really needed? I mean I fine with git pull, --rebase, whatever. What are
these tools helping me manage?
Composer is needed to install and update our requirements, it’s
installation is easy, see the url I gave.
mr helps to clone other repose we depend on into the main repo. You can
read the .mrconfig file and run the commands manually, thought you have
to do so for each update. You can of cause write a small shell script to
do so.
If I can do without them, that’s fine, but if they are how egw is managing part
of itself, and can’t run without them, then of course I’ll install them.
Do yourself a favor and install both of them, they make your live easier.
Ralf
