Backup & Restore Individual Mailboxes/user data with Egroupware

Is it possible to recover individual user data such as emails or mailboxes, instead of recovering the whole database.

Is incremental or differential backup supported with Eproupware ?

If this is possible how can we achieve this?

If this is not possible when will it be available?

This is a very important requirement for any groupware solution.

Mails are stored on the mail server, not within eGroupware. You need a
backup concept for your IMAP mail server.

Hi Hans,

Thank you for your reply. So what you are saying is accessing FelaMiMail should have an email backup feature for all synchronized email messages(Inbox messages,other folders & Sent Items in Outlook) .
I assume FelaMiMail supports outlook 2 way sync of emails.
Or Is there a diffirent email server?

My Goal is to sync my Outlook Inbox, otherfolders, contacts and calanders to a central server, so that I can access all of them from a mobile device or Webmail from anywhere. And also back them up, so that I can recover deleted emails in rare cases.

I think I need a clear explanation on this. Support for egroupware is very hard to find. My new service provider’s Plesk panel already has egroupware. I want to do the above on Plesk using egroupware and FelaMiMail or another email server that supports after the outlook sync email backup after the outlook 2 way sync . Please advise.

Hi Hans,

to get egroupware up and running in that way is very easy, if you use
the stylite email und EGroupware Premium Line hosting Service.
For you existing mailprovider, you are pointing yor MX-Reccound to the
stylite Server farm.
You als get a ready to Go EGroupware up and running with your
comapnyname.egroupware.de
So you have a webmailer the EGroupwarre and you can access that account
also with your outlook. Because it is an imap folder.
We also backup you account, so in case your Client dead, we have a
Backup of the Data at your servers.

To Sync contacts and Appiontments, you need a sync Client for your
Outlook. You can use ical4outlook:

Now eveything is also accessable from your Client and your Outlook.

If you are using a mobil device, like iPhone, or Nokia E,N Series, you
can also sync your information to that phone.

You can not compare the egroupware with your provider, because, it has

Felamimail does not store mail contents.
Mail contents are on an infrastructure IMAP server which is separate from
eGroupware.

FeLaMiMail does not sync.
FeLaMiMail is just a plain mail user interface (compare with thunderbird)

You should sync your mobile directly to eGroupware, using the syncML module.

And also back them up, so that I can recover deleted
emails in rare cases.

You need a backup of:

eGroupware (for contacts and calendar, which are stored inside
eGroupware) and
your mail server (for the mails stored there)

Hi Hans,

Thank you for your reply. It all makes sense to me now.
I can understand how egroupware records the mail server settings and allow the mail server to authenticate each email user.This way, user can access mail,contacts, calendar from one web browser as long as the mail client icon is available on the unified web browser.

So FelaMiMail is a web based email client like horde or round cube?
In other words if we want to use FelaMiMail as a web client, we have to install the required dependencies of FelaMiMail on the egroupware server?

To answer my original question in the first post: if one wants to recover contacts, calendar of all users after data loss, you need to recover the whole mySQL database of all the users from egroupware. You cannot recover individual user’s Cal,files & contacts. Right?

Finally Can you please clarify the below as this is my last question?

Egrpouware 1.4 version is available as an installer with some Plesk hosting providers to be installed by the plesk users. Do you think a Plesk user can upgrade to the latest version 1.6 from the Plesk user panel without the root access.

If all the features really work on Plesk, Well Egroupware is a life saver I guess.
