how can I turn caching on/off?
How can I force to flush the cache?

Any idea?

Tried to flush it using the setup item located at
…/setup/config.php

But no files in the temp-dir were removed…

Admin >> Clear cache and register hooks

i did this. But again no files in tempdir were removed…

Temp-dir is only used, if no shared memory cache provider (APC(u)
extension) is available.

You can also only flush instance cache, to tree-level cache. To flush
tree-level cache, which should never be necessary, you would have to
restart it’s provider (MemCached, if used, or Apache for APC(u)).

What do you try to archive?

I am trying to avoid template caching, as I made some modifications to the application and using one browser I saw another layout than on the other browser.

If there is an menu item “clear cache” in the menu, how does ist work?

do i have to enable its use somewhere in egw?

Better for what?

APC or APCu is shared memory (you should give at least 128MB, better
256MB), while Memcached uses TCP connection or unix domain socket to
access an other daemon. MemCached is usually 20 times slower then raw
shared memory like APC.

That sounds like it could be browser caching.
Shift + F5 usually does it, but it may be different with your browser.

I know that sounds like browser caching. But it wasn’t changing after emptying the browser’s cache. So that was the reason for my question how I could empty the egw cache…

I still think this might be a useful feature for egw…(for development purpose)

Not at all, we add file modification time as cache-buster to the url, so
a modified template get automatic loaded again from webserver, will
unchanged ones are taken from browser cache.

This is easy to check when you look at the network tab in developer
tools of your browser.
