Confirm License & Applications Issues before 1.8 -> 14.2 update?

Hi Ralf, Nathan, All

I have 2 production servers at 1.8.005 svn and I see I need to update to
14.2. Before I do, I would just like check for any “surprise” issues moving the
community license or apps to 14.2 (these installs are for my office and I want
to minimize surprises

Reading over the list all looks well, but the licensing issue concerns me. I
have been a community user since 1.0.0 (2006-2007?) and always submit usage
report. I see Ralf’s post indicating that community users should be OK:

But reading though the post, I use svn and not one of the packages listed.
Will that cause problems?

I haven’t experienced a license issue in the past, and recall when the usage
stats were implemented (? 1.2 or 1.4 timeframe), but I would just like to
confirm that all should be OK with with 14.2 update. (I’m getting old – I’ve
learned to ask first

Regarding applications, I have checked
http://svn.egroupware.org/egroupware/branches/14.2/ and all 1.8 applications I
primarily user are there:

calendar
addressbook
infolog
timesheet
knowledge_base (phpbrain)
filemanager
bookmarks
projectmanager

Judging by the reasonably quite list for the past few months the upgrade to
14.2 looks smooth – great job! Are there any application update issues to be
aware of? (other than the slow phpbrain queries reflected in recent list posts?)

If all is well, just a “should be OK” reply is all I’m looking for. I just
get a little skittish with major version updates) Thanks again and keep up the
great work.

(I should know all this if I were more active with the list, but 10 years ago I
didn’t have any teenage kids, now I have 3…)

I’d suggest

• copying your db
• install latest 14.2 files someplace new
• 14.2 header.inc.php edit to indicate db copy

… then let egroupware/setup/ try to upgrade the tables and whatever else it wants to do.

We moved from svn 1.9 something to 14.1 this way with not many bumps.

One other thing to mention is that the mail component, felamimail was replaced by horde.

Our upgrade almost worked perfectly, but I eventually had to rebuild our user’s email identities to make everyone happy.

None of these apps are concerned. When you send your usage report the
system will give you credentials to download new groups application,
which allows to create and edit groups.

OK, it took me a while to figure out what link you were referring to. In 10
years I’ve never made note of the user/pass that the usage stats were submitted
under, so I went to check under admin, which triggered another submission of
usage stats, which on completion lists the user/pass on the submission results
page. Typed those into the download and all worked.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I’ve created a new svn
download of 14.2 under a tmp name in my document root. I’ll backup my 1.8 db
files, move the 1.8 dir and run setup on 14.2 and see what happens.

I note the egw-pear directory is gone and recall there were changes to the
pear requirements. I’ll let you know if I run into issues. I’ll post a short
18.005 -> 14.2 migration summary when I’m done.

The biggest quandary will be moving all of the customizations to the idots
template to whatever the new templates are (jdots - I think). I have custom
backgrounds, etc. I’ll note that in the summary. If there are any useful links
for moving customizations over, please let me know.
