Devs,
In 1.8 svn, (I think this was the same in 1.6), there are two lingering issues
that make it frustrating to use the address book addresses.
(1) The address book address listing in upside-down. Currently in egw you have
City State Zip
Address
when it would make much for sense (at least for the US) to have
Address
City State Zip
(2) When you copy/paste the address from the address book, you end up with
embedded tabs between the City State and Zip like this:
CityStateZip
it would be much more convenient to have spaces instead of tabs and it would
be correct to have a comma inserted after the city like:
City, State Zip
This would eliminate having to reformat the address every time it is copied
from egw to a word processor, etc. I think during the 1.0.0.6 timeframe we
talked about having some type of button or pop-up like ‘frmt addr’ or ‘copy
addr’ that would simply display the name and address for an entry in an easily
useable form like:
FirstName LastName
Address1
Address2
City, State Zip
and then something similar for business
FirstName LastName
BusinessName
Address1
Address2
City, State Zip
That way you could just click a button and then simply select and middle-mouse
paste a complete address without having to separately select ‘lastname,
firstname’ line, swap the first/last around, select the address line, city state
zip line, reformat, remove tabs, add commas, etc.
Is there any way to do this currently? Also, is there any way get the
address/city state zip lines reversed as discussed in (1) above? Somewhere in
the past I think I submitted a feature request for these, but don’t know what
ever became of it. Either way, that was a long time ago, but it is still worth
revisiting.
If something like this doesn't exist, can somebody give me an idea what the
quickest way to implement something like this may be. It has been a long time
since I looked at it and I know a lot has changed since the 1.0 days.
Thanks -- and 1.8 is working great.
