'Current Users' showing "0"

Hi,

System is FreeBSD 4.11
Apache 1.3.34
PHP 5.1.2

I had upgraded to eGW 1.2.RC8 from 1.0.009, and now recently upgraded to
PHP5 and eGw 1.2-1.

Everything seems to be working OK so far. I even have iCalsrv NG working
with my Macosx iCal.

Now I am seeing one problem. The “Current Users” section on the top-right
corner of Admin screen is always showing “0”, no matter how many persons log
in.

Clicking on it, takes you to the “Admin - list current users” screen, and
sure enough, that displays an empty table for the current users.

Before this would show all users, including myself.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I have the same problem with the list of users. I partially resolved it
by selecting the DB session mode (instead of php session).
You can select that in the header.inc.php in this part:

** eGroupWare can handle session management using the database or
** the session support built into PHP4 which usually gives
**better performance.
** Your choices are ‘db’ or ‘php4’

$GLOBALS[‘egw_info’][‘server’][‘sessions_type’] = ‘db’;

But some services are unavaible like for example syncml.

Yes…
Confirmed… only works with session management = db…

Thanks for the responses.

But look at topic “Converting to php5”. Ralf Becker has been quoted as
saying that there are no problems with php5.

If using php5 means a choice between session management and syncml (among
other things), then there is certainly a problem with php5, and should be
addressed asap.

Hi,

Ok, from the other thread “Converting to php5” I got my answer.

Thanks ldeviator and Ralph.

Found out that my php.ini file (freshly installed after the php5 change-ver)
did not have “session.save_path” defined, as it was for the php.ini file for
php4…

…sheesh…

so, I opened it to “session.save_path = /tmp” and now I see my Current Users
number accurately again…

However, there may be security concerns about this, as it is not done by
default. I have asked about the same in the other thread.

current users showing 0.

I commented on this one a few times: webserver-user has no right to
access session directory (eg. on Debian/Ubuntu), therefore we can not
list or count the sessions.

If you want the session list, give webserver user access to
session-directory.

In EPL 11.1 or Trunk we are maintaining a session-list via
egw_access_log table.

Thanks Ralf,

I tried what was mentioned in previous post, I run this on 1and1 shared hosting and other scripts like forum scripts I run show who’s online, total count, logged in count, etc. I thought his may use the same type of process to show this type of information.
