Hi David,
Ralf, Klaus, All,
The recent version of LibreOffice comes with the ability to export
documents directly to WebDAV (as well as google docs, etc…) That prompted the
question:
“Is there anything in egroupware that can server as the WebDAV server for this
document export feature?”
EGroupware works as WebDAV server since many years.
If you switch OpenOffice or LibreOffice to use it’s native dialogs for
opening and saving files, you can directly open and store files for
EGroupware. It’s a checkbox under Preferences >> LibreOffice >> General
Open/Save dialogs.
Then you click on open and enter the EGroupware WebDAV URL instead of a
filename, eg.
https://domain.com/egroupware/webdav.php/home/username/test.odt or just
the start directory and browser from there.
We are thinking about developing a FF extension, to launch OO or LO
directly on click, to save you the hassle of typing in the WebDAV URL.
My initial thought was that it could serve as a fantastic http:// based
document server that allows easy collaboration between egw users. Now, I
don’t know exactly what format the LibreOffice export would be in (I presume
you would export in .odt), but this seems like a great possible addition to
the Filemanager to allow addition of documents directly from Libre without
having to manually add them in egw.
I don't know if it makes sense, but as we discussed years ago, the document
management features would really be a plus to egw capabilities if the DMS had
an additional table that allowed detailed field information to be stored
regarding documents i.e.:
Wie develop the CMS stuff nearly exclusivly in our EPL version, so many
of your request is already implemented, but not in the community
version. Sorry
Ralf
doc_date,

doc_format,
doc_subject,
doc_summary,
doc_project [proj ID], (or just ‘Links’ cabability)
doc_issue,
doc_author,
doc_from, (doc_from_name, doc_from_address, doc_from_email, doc_from_fax, …)
doc_to, (doc_to_name, …)
doc_keywords,
doc_important [y/n],
doc_category,
doc_location,
doc_revision_no,
doc_part_of, (ID of others that make up multi-part doc)
etc… (plenty of others you can think of)
Just food for thought for the devs to kick around. I know time is short for
everyone. But, if document handling could be as seamless as calendar/contact
handling is from mobile devices or 3rd party apps, then the DMS part of egw
would be killer! The LibreOffice inclusion of direct WebDAV export seems to
open an opportunity for something like this.
Let me know if you want me to add this a feature request. At least that way
some of the doc_ information could be captured for reference at some future time.
