So far we could only point to sf.net:

It show EGroupware has currently around 20 thousand downloads per month
from sf.net alone (it had sometimes been more then 80 thousand in the
past), which sum up to a total of 2 million sf.net downloads since April
2003.
Not accounted for are:
- RPM downloads from openSUSE (for all RPM based distributions)
- Debian, Ubuntu and other distributions containing EGroupware
- svn checkouts
Our problem: these numbers say very little, as we dont know if people
just download it, or install and use it with hundreds of users.
Specially when dealing with the press or being compared to commercial
software, this is a problem.
As a solution we introduce now “EGroupware usage statistic”:
From 1.6.003 on every EGroupware install contains a client to submit
monthly usage data to www.egroupware-server.org. Submitting the data is
voluntary and the submitted data is displayed as clear text to the
admin, asked to submit it.
We ask for:
- a unique ID to track growth of individual installations (+)
- nationality of users or multinational usage
- usage type: commercial, governmental, educational, non-profit or personal
- number of users (*)
- number of sessions/logins in the last 30 days (*)
- EGroupware version (*)
- operating system of server (*)
- PHP version (*)
- install type: archive, rpm/deb package, svn or other (*)
- used applications, percentage of allowed users and number of entries (*,+)
+) data can be deleted by the administrator
*) data is automatically determined
The cumulated and anonymised data will be publically available:

Currently the data gets only collected, there’s not yet any statistic.
I will start adding it, once we have more data.

Das zeigt EGroupware hat im Moment rund 20 tausend Download pro Monath

Unser Problem: diese Zahlen sagen sehr wenig, da wir nicht wissen, ob
die Leute EGroupware nur heruntergeladen haben, oder installiert und mit
hunderten Benutzern nutzen.
Speziell im Umgang mit der Presse und in Vergleichen mit kommerzieller
Software ist das ein Problem.
Als eine Lösung führen wir jetzt die “EGroupware Nutzungstatistik” ein:
Von 1.6.003 an wird jede EGroupware Installation einen Klient enthalten
um monatlich Nutzungsdaten nach www.egroupware-server.org zu übertragen.
Die Übertragung der Daten ist freiwillig und die übertragenen Daten
werden im Klartext dem Administrator angezeigt, der gefragt wird sie zu
übertragen.
Wir fragen nach:
- einer eindeutigen ID um das Wachstum individueller Installationen zu
verfolgen (+)
- Nationalität der Nutzer oder internationale Nutzung
- Einsatz: kommerziell, öffentlicher Dienst, Ausbildung, gemeinnützig
oder persönlich
- Anzahl der User (*)
- Anzahl der Sitzungen/Logins in den letzten 30 Tagen (*)
- EGroupware Version (*)
- Betriebssystem des Servers (*)
- PHP Version (*)
- Installationstyp: Archive, RPM/DEB Paket, SVN oder andere (*)
- installierte Anwendungen, Prozentsatz erlaubte Benutzer und Gesamtzahl
der Einträge (*,+)
+) Daten können vom Administrator gelöscht werden
*) Daten werden automatisch bestimmt

Im Momment werden die übertragenen Daten nur gesammelt. Es gibt noch
keine statistische Auswertung. Damit werde ich beginnen, wenn wir mehr
