Egroupware disk footprint - 600mb?

I’m having troubles installing egroupware.
I’ve installed at a different workplace with no issues in the past,
but now I have a choice between 2 servers.

1 has a disk space problem and is a bit old (But I have ftp and ssh
access to do what I need ). I dont want to install it to this server
as it is being replaced, but probably could providing it doesn’t run
out of disk space.

1 is a plesk server, which I only have ftp access to.

I have been trying to upload to the plesk server, but as I dont have
enough access to unzip on the server, I need to ftp the folder up -
with disastourous results.

The unzipped version of egroupware is so large that ftp programs just
jam

Size 72.7 MB (76,328,760 bytes)
Size on disk 621 MB (651,231,232 bytes)

Any ideas why the unzipped size on disk is so large?
What is the true disk usage on a linux server when it is unzipped?
(Is it just my windows laptop showing a bloody huge unzipped size?)

Using Tomcat but need to do more? Need to support web services, security?

600MByte is to be to much. It should be about 300 MByte.

And if you want to save some more space, you can delete any .svn directory.
But then you can update from svn anymore.

What I did was unpack the zips (for the regular install & the
contribs) on my local PC. I did I search for all of the *.svn folders
& deleted them. Then I rezipped the remaining folders &
unpacked them on the server. If you try to upload unzipped or
untarred files it’ll take you a long time to install.

On my windows box (Development machine) I reclaimed 500mb when
deleting all .svn directories,and on the Linux web server I reclaimed
about 200mb.

It might be nice to have a version that you can download from the
server without these files for those of us who dont want to use svn,
and dont want to waste the disk space.
I had no idea the install was that big until I ran into problems
ftping it to the server.

I agree. I think it’s just a matter of compiling with & without
the *.svn folders.

Hi,

Only one thing.
Without svn information, you cannot update your installation with bugfixes etc.

For example I have a version from egw, which I keep up to date with svn and an
other (only one) egroupware directory, where I build up my environment for
several instances.
I can use it to refresh more than 5 different servers in comfortable way.

This is my experience, of course others might have other tricks

Thans fine, and if disk space wasn’t an issue I might use svn.
(Actually I probably couldn’t use it anyway because of restrictive
permissions on the server I’m using)

So for my requirements is much better so save 200mb and just install
new versions over the top when needed.
