eGroupware doesnt detect installed PEAR

Hi!
I installed egroupware over debian lenny. I installed php-pear. It can be found ind /usr/share/php

I uncommented the include_path in php.ini pointing to the PEAR.php path, I added php_value include path .:/usr/share/php in my virtual hosts file and when I check the installation egroupware says:

Checking PEAR is installed: False
PEAR is needed by: Calendar (iCal import+export), FeLaMiMail, EMailAdmin, felamimail, news_admin, SyncML. PEAR (pear.php.net) is a PHP repository and is usually in a package called php-pear.

How can this be fixed?

Did you install the egw-pear package with the egw package?

I folowwed your example and something has changed, I think im pointing in the good direction, now I got this error message:

Warning: file_exists() [function.file-exists]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/usr/etc/pear.conf) is not within the allowed path(s): (/var/www/sitios/admin/alejandro@formanek.com.ar/grupofn.com.ar/subdominios/:/usr/share/php) in /usr/share/php/PEAR/Config.php on line 625

Do you know how to fix this?

Just add all “problematic” directory paths to the open_basedir variable, as
shown in the example.
I think, /usr/etc/pear.conf is not really problem, that file does not exists
as I know. Probably others could confirm this.

“safe_mode=off” in php.ini fixed the problem for me
