Hi Ken,
Hi all
I have been tinkering with a migration of my EGW server. It is presently
a virtual machine residing in VirtualBox on an older PC (first P4
generation that supprts VT).
I have cloned it, and migrated it onto a brand-new 4-core server where
it resides under Proxmox as a KVM type guest.
The surprise here is that the EGW guest is much more responsive for
users on the older, VirtualBox host.
My expectation was that I would see performance improvements since the
new server was designed to support virtualization, it has much faster
disk drives, and much more RAM.
I realize this is much more likely an issue of the host operating
system, rather than EGW itself, but are there settings, perhaps in MySQL
or PHP that could improve the user experience?
Default MySQL config is for a single user development system, you need
to tweak that, if you are running more then a couple of users.
Usually there are a few example configurations in /usr/share/doc/mysql*
where you can eg. pick my-large or my-huge and copy it to /etc/my.cnf.
A good starting point for MySQL tuning is tuning primer script:

PHP wise most important is to install an opcode cache, eg. APC which
also get used by EGroupware to cache instance-wide data in shared
memory, otherwise much slower file system is used.
