Email Configuration/Users outside of corporate domain

I am unable to get the email to work. I know that mapi works with my virtual domain. The login parameters
are URl mail.mydomain.com username is account.mycomain.com password is zzzz as an example of the login parameters in any standard email client such as thunderbird or outlook. How do I do that in egroupware. Thus for, for a test account, nothing seems to work.
I want to include users outside the corporation in the group. I would prefer NOT to give them an internal email account to function within egroupware but would like them to access their regular email accounts through a pop3 interface. is that feasible?

Hi,

eGW / FMail does NOT support POP.

You can allow in EMailAdmin to use custom email settings. Then you can
configure everything in the prefs of the concerned user.

By your answer to point 2, I presume that this the global setting to let users configure own email account. I am an still concerned about point 1. I use IMAP but can’t seem to get it to work with Egroupware and my virtual server (i.e. I buy services from an ISP).
Suggestions would be appreciated. I am tring various combinations for the imap server.
The response that I get is
The connection to the IMAP Server failed!!

[CLOSED] IMAP connection broken (server response)

To recap,
my URL is mail.mydomain.com
my username is yyy.mydomain.com email address is yyy@mydomain.com
password is zzz

I am trying various types of IMAP servers. I know mine requires authenication.

1.2.106. Using authentication, I can get it, only if I click the IMAP server ICON. it does not show me any folders other than INBOX (there are others for spam).
If I just click the mail icon on the top bar, I get the server connection broken message.

eGroupWare username and password have to be exactly the same as your
IMAP-login. Everthing else will be ignored (except you use
mailserver-auth or LDAP of course).

this is a known and odd behaviour of 1.2 tree. Do yourself a favour and
upgrade to 1.4 RC1 there it will work like Ralf described.

The response that I get is The connection to the IMAP Server failed!!

Under each user’s mail preferences::

Use Custom Settings YES
Username = the account username
Password = the account password
email address = email for that account
IMAP server address = does not need to be an IP, can be a name eg mailserver.youisp.com

As I remember it was the setting that caused us a lot of trouble
