I am trying to setup eSync in the latest community edition. The app
itself is installed (hooks registered) but i don’t see under the
applications using admin.
Only visible part of eSync in EGroupware is in preferences (you have to
explicitly select it after opening in first select-box).
Is there any howto, description about setting up the eSync app to use with outlook?
Microsoft tries it’s best to not support ActiveSync protocol in Outlook
in general. They support it for hotmail and try to detect if they talk
to an Exchange server. You may find some tutorial what to do to get it
working with other servers (involves killing Outlook at the correct
time, to stop it from detecting you are setting it up against a non
Exchange server).
There is unfortunately no relyable and easy way to use Outlook with a
non-Exchange ActiveSync protocol speaking server.
It also does not support CalDAV/CardDAV which every groupware server
speaks nowadays.
There are a couple of connectors / plugins allowing to use Outlook with
CalDAV/CardDAV or alternativ clients like Thunderbird (with Lightning
for calendar and SoGo for addressbook) or eM Client, if you only care
about Windows as OS.
