Fatal error with "Preferences" - branch 1.8

Hello Egroupware-developers,

When clicking on “Preferences” in the top menu in a recent branch 1.8
EGW installation I get following warning and fatal error message:

Warning: require_once(PEAR.php) [function.require-once]: failed to
open stream: No such file or directory in
/home/httpd/vhosts/domain.com/httpsdocs/egw/egw-pear/Net/Socket.php
on line 22

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening
required ‘PEAR.php’

As PEAR is a requirement for EGroupware, just install it.

Yes I know - and it was installed a long time ago. And EGW branch
version 1.8 is running quite a long time, too on this server and I
didn’t got this error message - besides today.

EGW did run several month without this error - and I didn’t change
anything in the configuration and setup.

In .htaccess of EGW folder PEAR directory is set as

php_value include_path “.:/home/httpd/vhosts/domain.com/httpsdocs/_pear/”

and in _pear the PEAR installation is stored

for wathever reason it failes just now. Socket.php does require the PEAR.php stuff since years.
Nothing changed there.
However your .htaccess stuff is not used anymore for the include_path
as you can see within the error message:

(include_path=’/home/httpd/vhosts/domain.com/httpsdocs/egw/egw-pear:.:’)
So you should check stuff regarding the WebServer or your php suff. Any updates or changes
here?

As already written - PEAR is installed a long time.

But the provider changed some configuration on the server - “security
reasons”. So the “php_value include_path” seems to be ignored…

I hope to find a solution.
