Finally getting ready to upgrade

I am lookup to upgrade from 1.8.001 to the latest, First to do it, as a
test setup, then finally go live.

Any suggestions on the best way to do it?

I know I had submitted several usage statistic before 2014, how can I
confirm it?

You can install the latest eGroupware (14.3.x) on a fresh installed
machine and restore a backup of your 1.8.x database.

This worked for me.
