Funambol (android) syncML - egw 1.8.001 (SOLVED)

Hi,

just (painfully: lost all my contacts… in my phone an no way to get them back on because sync is not working ) found out the my Android syncML Funambol client is not able to sync contacts with egw.

It worked in 1.6.002, in 1.6.003 I had the issue that when trying to login (first time credential check) it threw a generic error: I was able to work around this by doing the first credential check against 1.6.002. This trick worked for 1.8.001 as well: credentials where checked correcty (first threw generic error) but syncing is not able.

Okay, just managed to export egw addressbook to vcard and import those into gmail account, enabled this account again and they are back on… so ‘the panic is over’ but it still isn working as it is supposed to

Hi,

who is willing to fix this together with me???

1. funambol not able to login (first registration): generic error (started from version 1.6.003)
2. when ‘cheating’ first registration against 1.6.002 and then replacing with 1.6.003 syncing works (new installation of funambol client gives Generic Error see 1.)
3. when ‘cheating’ first registration against 1.6.002 and then replacing with 1.8.001 syncing does not work -> sync failed error)

I tried 3. with Funambol 8.5, 9.0 (apk download) and with market version 8.7.5 all the same.

with the upcoming numbers of android devices / tablets and the maturing of the free / opensource funambol client I think we have an opportunity here

Hi. For importing the contacts from vcard to android addressbook, don’t
need to go through gmail. There’s an application which allows you to
import vcf file directly inside the android addressbook. Beware that
categories aren’t imported and sometimes there’s a bit confusion between
home phone number and office number. If you have any non ascii character
inside the vcard, sometimes you can get some weird character; I’ve
experimented this with Chinese name, some are displayed correctly, some
other are not (maybe it’s a missing font problem)
It is possible I didn’t see other import error. Anyway I’ve experimented
it with eg 1.6.003 and android 1.5 and I’m quite satisfied.
The name of the application is “vcardio-0.32.sms.apk”. I don’t know it
it’s available on android market, I’ve found it on another website. In
case of trouble in finding it, tell me and I’ll send it to you if you want.

Hi urodelo,

thanks for the tip. The application is available in the Market and I will do some testing.
Using Gmail as carrier for my egw contacts is really no problem, but for me this is a one-way sync… Contacts changed / added on my phone should be synced back into egw, without addidtional handling / routines.

It all worked in egw 1.6.002 (signing in, syncing) then came 1.6.003 which broke signing in (but was able to sync when intermediate signing in was done against 1.6.002), now version 1.8.003 breaks both signing in and syncing…

Looking at the speed Android is gaining momentum in the ‘pda’ market in my opinion this should be fixed / looked at… but then again: I’m biased because I just want it to work

Hi, just solved this by following the following steps:

1. remove and reinstall syncml in egw
2. in user preferences remove previous connected client
3. deleted funambol client on my android
4. reinstalled (market version) of funambol client
5. tada… it works again…

So I guess it had something to do with my old (cached) 1.6.001 / 002 / 003 / 1.8.001 settings.
Hope this also helps somebody else jumping in the RC versions of egw and android
