Ical export to Apple ical and to google calendar

I am trying to export calendar events by using the “export: ical” function. The events are downloaded properly (event.ics). Then I try to import this file either to Apple ical or to Google calendar (gcal). The import to those applications does not work and the following error message appears:
“Failed to import events: Unable to process your iCal/CSV file. The file is not properly formatted”

Obviously the exported file does not seem to be properly formatted. How can we make work this?

It seems to work if you set in Admin Calendar Preferences the item in “Format of event updates” to “iCal / rfc2445” (at least for Google Calendar).

When exporting a period with days of no events, I get the following error message when importing to Google Calendar or Apple iCal:
“Processed zero events.
Failed to import events: Unable to process your iCal/CSV file. The file is not properly formatted…”

Any workaround or solution approach?

Using trunk 25544 ical export of a period (e.g. 2 weeks) to google calendar or ical of Apple provides the following error when trying to import to google calendar or ical of Mac:

Is there any approach
(i) either to import or properly export ical data in such way that it can be imported in google calendar or ical of Apple, and/or
(ii) to add the egroupware calendar to google calendar or ical of Mac by URL (add by URL)?

Apple iCal is mostly working via CalDAV, if you are using a current
trunk. The setup of CalDAV in iCal is different from an iCal server URL.
You need to go to preferences >> accounts and create a new account. You
need to manually set the URL to:

http://domain.com/egroupware/groupdav.php/calendar/

I have no idea if google calendar can use a CalDAV server. Mozilla
Lightning 0.8 is now working fine via CalDAV.

After analyzing I noticed that the error occurs when for a group is invited to the event. If I delete the following line from the exported event.ics, then I am able to import it to google calendar:
"ATTENDEE;CN=Partners Group;ROLE=REQ-PARTICIPANT;PARTSTAT=NEEDS-ACTION;

CUTYPE=GROUP;RSVP=TRUE;X-EGROUPWARE-UID=-7;"

Certainly, the issue is not that it is a group. But rather one of the parameters used in the above lines might not be compatible with google calendar.

Is there any workaround?

I tried to add the url to google calender. Unfortunately, it says that it can’t fetch the url.

When typing the url in the webbrowser a blank page (404 in IE7) is showed after having asked for loign.

That’s the expected behavior, as it’s a CalDAV not iCal Server and does
not return anything on a GET request for a collection. As I wrote
before, I dont know if google calendar can deal with CalDAV servers.

re ical export I detected that import works if you do add the addresses by their names and NOT by groups. If you add groups to the event, import function fails.

groupdav.php/calendar/ works perfect with Thunderbird.

With Apple a strange thing happens: a popup window requesting login details appears. then you enter the username and pwd you use normally to login into egw, and you get an error message that the username and password is not correct.

At the same time you get a session entry in egw. But the groupdav.php/calendar is not reflected at all in the Apple application as it is telling the user that username and/or pwd are not correct.

Any ideas? Did somebody manage to use groupdav.php/calendar/ with Apple calendar?

The problem:

• sync in both directions between ical from Mac and egroupware.

Solution approach:

1. icalsrv: http://…com/egroupware/icalsrv.php at ical
   Result: I can read at ical Mac but I cannot create events and sync back to intranet (read-only)

2. groupdav: http://…com/egroupware/groupdav.php/calendar
   Result: the login appears and if the login is correct the following error message pops up: No calendar was found on http://…com/egroupware/groupdav.php/calendar. Please check the URL

3. groupdav: http://…com/egroupware/icalsrv/groupdav.php/calendar
   Result: same as at point 2)

According to Apple caldav should work “# CalDAV Group Scheduling, Schedule a meeting with colleagues, check availability, and book conference rooms when using iCal with a compatible CalDAV server like iCal Server” (Ical Link).

It works fine with Thunderbird, but for us it’s crucial that it works as well with Mac OS X ical. Any help appreciated.

Hi,

for 2) (3) is just legacy support) you have to create an account in
apples iCal application, as it’s not iCalServer but CalDAV. It’s kind of
hidden and you cant use the autodetection, but have to specify the url
explicitly.

How to:

1. go to 'ical -> preferences -> accounts -> press ‘+’ for new account
2. enter description, your egw username, your egw pwd
3. in server options enter ‘http://…com/egroupware/groupdav.php/calendar/’ (or your path)
4. no authentication, no automatic discovering
