Include fix for Funambol-Sync with Thunderbird into 1.4?

Hi,

I was a little disappointed about the restricted sync with the Funambol-plugin for Thunderbird until I found this tip in the forum of the plugin:

Is there a chance to include this (or a better/less general) fix into the 1.4 release?

Hi Peter,

I dont think this fix will be included, as it changes the default.

If you provide the right productManufacturer/productName as it should be
in the apache error_log by the following statement:
error_log(“Client not found: $_productManufacturer $_productName”);

We can set it without problems.

That’s what I guessed…

Got me…

In the php-error.log I found (I replaced the spaces after the colon with underlines)
Client not found:__

Maybe you should support this “spacy” client…

So, I guess, this can only be fixed after the next version of the TB-plugin, which hopefully tells more about itself… :-/

I can ask Lars, if we can “savely” assume that is the only client with
an empty manufacture and product. No idea …

I asked on the plugin-forum, if the next version will include the information. Until then, I would really appreciate, if this assumption in egw could savely be made.

BTW: The name in TB2 is not transferred, but replaced by the name-part of the email. Do you have an idea, if this could be fixed by a configuration in egw?

I talked with Lars on the LinuxTag fair about that: You can configure
the funambol client to use the SIF url, which is supported by eGW. Then
you get all fields funambol clients/server support.

You dont need to hack the eGW code for that, nor react on a so far not
existing manufacture/product string.

Then the only way is a manufacturer/product id by the plugin, beside you
patching the code yourself.

This plugin works only for TB1.5 for the moment. I’m also wating for the
TB2 version (the best should be with “near-future” Lightning 0.5 version
compatibility).
The Funnambol plugin works grrreat with EgW and TB 1.5 . Because the
plugin don’t include the manufacturer information, you must modify the
parser file to indicate the Default field to “1” as indicate in
http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1686391&forum_id=504689.
One limitation : until Lightning 0.3 do not use categories, no way to
sync events with it. Hope in 0.5 version …

Hi Ralf,

Please see Workaround, was: Plugin : synchro Egroupware for a description of a workaround to “sync” the Thunderbird-addressbook with eGroupware.
This syncing is currently egw->TB only and doesn’t include distribution lists, but that would at least make the address book entries available to TB.

I asked the developer of the plugin, if he could provide a new version of the plugin with manufacturer/product id and I hope to avoid the change of the default fallback.

Okay, but since today, there’s a new Funambol-plugin 0.3.2, which is not documented!

My first review:

Funambol-PIM-plugin	v0.3.1	v0.3.2
max.Lightning version	0.3x	0.5x
can log on Windows	yes	no (path problem)
crashes after sync	no	yes
syncs egw -> TB	yes	yes
syncs TB -> egw	no	yes (somehow)
sends id	no	no

Workaround

Get the Funambol-plugin you like
Patch egroupware/addressbook/inc/class.vcaladdressbook.inc.php:
Add
```
'FN' => array('n_fn')  
```
to the defaultFields[1] and make the defaultFields[1] the default for the fallback:
```
$this->supportedFields = $defaultFields[1] 
```
See the plugin forum entry for the context diff.
Set up the connection (in the Plugin settings) to http://wiki/egroupware/rpc.php with your user account settings
Configure to sync contacts with a new(!) addressbook and with the remote name 'contacts'
Start sync and: Good luck!

That’s okay to follow?

Not yet, I would say. If the plugin-developer releases a new version within the next few days, which includes the missing ids, it is said in this thread that there are no problems to add the support for the plugin.

Hi,

some more experiences…

… must be replaced by a second one:

The plugin changes it’s extension-id, thus I had 0.3.1 and 0.3.2 concurrently installed while I was testing.

After a clean installation (remove both plug-ins, remove registry settings at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Funambol\MozillaThunderClient and below; re-install 0.3.2, re-configure settings) it still coexists with lightning 0.5rc and syncs the calendar. But the only result while syncing the contacts is a crashing TB2…

So, the Workaround description must be changed to

After this, I asked the developer to provide some more information about the 0.3.2 release. Maybe he can give some better news…
