Infolog entries with special chars (Umlaute) not shown eGroupware 1.5.011

Hi,

I have updated a Database from eGroupware 1.4.004 to 1.5.011 and for some Infolog entries only the Subjects were shown. So I looked in the Database and found that the entries not shown, contained chars like “öüä”. So I tested what is saved in the Database when I write a new Infolog entry and I found chars like “Ã¼”.

It’s quite the same wit the Knowledgebase, which is showing “�” instead of “öüä” after updating.

It would be very nice if the setup could convert the charsets while updating the database or at least give a warning.

Is there an easy way to convert the complete database or configure the eGrouware?

You may have to switch the charset of your 1.4 installation to utf-8 before
you upgrade.
Make sure you check the data before you upgrade, as the conversion from ISO
to UTF8
can result in a loss of data, that where stored as serialized array.
Usually signatures, preferences and the definition of user defined fields
may be affected.
You may have to convert the filenames of your files in your filesdirectory
as well.
Always backup your FILES Directory BEFORE you change the carset.
Always backup BEFORE you change the charset.
Always backup BEFORE you update.

Hi Manfred,

it worked with the above mentioned Charset change.

Another solution could be to make a backup with the eGroupware and convert that to UTF-8 wih recode.
