Initial setup fails for egroupware-svn, debian unstable

Good day.
After an svn update calendar entries failed to work. ( http://n3.nabble.com/time-zone-database-error-on-new-calendar-entry-egroupwar- svn-td424895.html )
As a solution I thought I would start again from scratch with a fresh checkout of svn trunk as per the wiki, and copy the missing table into my old database…
After header install and entering Setup/Config Admin Login, database detection and such like works. After creating the new db (postgresql) and making sure the pg_hba allows access as required (tested from shell), installation of applications fails. Clicking on install simply takes me back to the config/header login page, with no action taken on the db etc.

A solution would be very helpful. I have no working egroupware installation atm (using 1.6 with the current db fails as you would expect 8)

egroupware version: current trunk
OS: Debian unstable
Apache version: 2.2.14-7
php5 version: 5.3.1-5
postgresql: 8.4.2-2

After a dist upgrade firefox works and I can continue to the point of adding the admin user, which fails with:
Unique violation: 7 ERROR: duplicate key value violates unique constraint “egw_sqlfs_pkey”

I get the same and worse when after copying a user from a previous installation (1/2 working) and trying to create users from admin. None of the apps work tho.

I guess theres nothing left to do but try 1.6, pity, 1.7 looks so nice!

since this may be a new install, did you try
-dropping all tables in the database and restart from there?

This is with a new database. So fresh install of egw-svn with fresh database. fails.
Postgres version was updated to 8.4

Are there any tools to migrate bits of the database (or all of it). It all broke after an svn update last week, after not updating for about two months.

I tried taking the tables from the fresh install (new db) that were missing from my old database (which was from an older version of svn), i.e egw_bookmarks_extra, egw_importexport_something, and most critically, egw_cal_timezones, and inserting them into my old db, but this didnt work at all.
Mind you ime no postgres expert and my methid could have been completely stupid 8) (using pg_restore and a modified toc)

I tried a debian version of 1.6002, but my addressbook tables etc didnt work with it for some reason.
I need svn version for its groupdav support (in case your wondering)

SQLSTATE[23505]: Unique violation: 7 ERROR: duplicate key value violates unique constraint “egw_sqlfs_pkey”

(debian unstable postgresql-8.4)

?? Wish I could understand the database better…

How do I overcome this?

Short answer: use MySQL
Long answer: learn PostgreSQL and help fixing that problem …

Somehow EGroupware tries to insert an identical entry (same values for
primary key colums), which get rejected by the database.

Just from what you write, I can not tell what the problem is.

As before I know no postgres or php. But if you can point me to the
bits of php that make the call, then I could try and nut it out…
