Install hangs

Hello All!

I am attempting to install egw on a Win7 pc for development purposes. I installed WAMMP successfully, and now am on the first page of egw install.
On the bottom, it has 3 buttons - write - download - view for config file

no matter what I select nothing happens.

Did I mess up something on the Wammp Server install?

When you say “nothing happens”, do you mean it sits there forever trying to load or you get a white screen appear or something else that might fall under your very broad description?

First thing to check would be your Apache’s error and transfer (access) log, to see if the request was received and what the response was, or any error that was generated. It could be a permission problem.

But if you got as far as the page you can see then I don’t think you messed anything up. There are always teething problems and learning curves to overcome.

Let me explain more clearly the problem…

Install egroupware and then type into the address bar of internet explorer (ver 9) localhost/egroupware

The installation page appears

I click on “Run Installation tests” All pass

I then click “Continue to the Header Admin”

On the top of this next page is a warning - “You have not created your header.inc.php yet! You can create it now”

I fill in all the information on the page

on the bottom of this page are 4 buttons:

Add new database instance (eGW domain)

Write

Download

View (the configuration file)

When I clicked on the Write button on an installation on a different pc, it wrote the header.inc.php file

On this page, I click on it and nothing happens

When I click on either the Download or View buttons, nothing happens

HOWEVER, I just installed firefox (ver 14.0.1) and the buttons work! The header,inc.php file was created.

I went on to complete the install configuration using Firefox.

So, the question becomes, has anyone had problems configuring EGW using IE9?

Should this be listed in a “Quirks in installing EGW” file?

Thanks for the detailed reply. I’m still trying to understand a bit more about the situation when you say “nothing happens”. As per my last response, it would be handy if you could clarify:

1. Does the page get submitted (can you see the swirling IE logo?)
2. Does Apache receive the request for the page (there is an entry in the transfer (access) log)?
3. Does IE receive a page which just happens to be blank (usually entirely white)?

All of those could be called “nothing works” but each of them could be for entirely different reasons so it would be helpful for the developers if you could describe the exact behaviour in a little more detail.

No, the page does not move despite my clicking on any of the buttons at the bottom. No swirly mice, no “waiting for …” etc

the page acts as if I did nothing at all. There is no response. Everything I typed is undisturbed. It appears it is waiting for some action, but none is recognized.

There is no change in the log. Again, it appears EGW is waiting for me to do something. The buttons act as if the “on-action” coding has been commented out

3. Does IE receive a page which just happens to be blank (usually entirely white)?

The page does not change. No data is disturbed. No flashes , blinks, or movement of any kind. I have done some coding in Servoy, building 'on-action" scripts that begin when buttons are clicked. If I wrote the code wrong, it would hiccup or error.
These do neither. it is as if the “on-action” coding had been commented out so the button was would be inactive.

The strange thing is it works well with Firefox. I am courious what prevents the coding to work in IE9.

Maybe is it a cruel cosmic joke by the coding gods?

Hi Steve,

Well the behaviour you describe means as you suggest that clearly the page just isn’t being submitted at all in IE9. I don’t use Windows let alone IE9 so can’t readily check this. But of course it really should be working for IE9 users.

What version are you installing? In the trunk there’s no scripting that I can see which should stop the form being submitted when you click the buttons. There’s an onchange form submitter and a popup opener for the manual. Do you get any JS errors in your IE debugger console that may have completely killed the page?

Maybe some third party or external scripts may have interfered with the page (sometimes I find GreaseMonkey scripts can cause these sorts of problems). Also are you operating that particular page in any kind of IE compatibility mode? Do you have any spyware/identity theft protection software running which may be intercepting or altering the page?

Although sadly a lot of eGW DOM and AJAX scripting doesn’t take the Hijax approach (which I consider to be the gold standard for client-side scripting) there really doesn’t seem to be any JS causing the issues and it seems likely to be something else. As most people know who have to fix things just to get them working in IE, it could be any number of weird and whimsical problems and without an IE9 I can’t do much else.

I suggest filling in a bug report to see if somebody else can replicate the error. http://community.egroupware.org/bugtracker
