Don’t confuse all the setup information for your own server with the
setup information for HOSTED egroupware.
if you run your own server (as I do too), then all you need is:
a) setup rewrite rules for clients like iCal and iOS that work on the
server root and have limited configuration option but rather rely on
discovery. If you don’t want to use iCal and iOS, then you can skip this
step.
b) your FQDN will be
http[s]://[egw-install-location]/groupdav.php/[loginname]/calendar/
So if you have installed egroupware on your host, let’s say MYHOST.COM
without SSL and have a user USERID, then your FQDN will be
http://MYHOST.COM/groupdav.php/USERID/calendar/
That is exactly the URL you enter into lightning, give your USERID as
login name and your password as password. Done.
If you have multiple calendars with read/write access, you do the following:
http://MYHOST.COM/groupdav.php/OTHERUSER/calendar/ and use again YOUR
login and password (since you have read and/or write access on the
calendar).
If you have installed egroupware in a subfolder (ie EGW), then your FQDN
will be http://MYHOST.COM/egw/groupdav.php/USERID/calendar/
If you have installed egroupware in a subdomain, then your FQDN would be
http://subdomain.MYHOST.COM/groupdav.php/USERID/calendar/
If you use SSL, then you swap HTTP:// with HTTPS://
\CardDAV works exactly the same if you use /addressbook/ at the end
instead of /calendar/.
Does that make sense?
Cheers,
Ingo
Hi Ken and others,
it looks like it’s not that simple as I would like it to be. I tried
different paths to the groupdav file but none succeeded.
I’m on my “own” server. I rent it at a hosting company. From what I
hear from them is I need a certificate so that I can setup and read my
calendar or contactbase in a secure environment. (I need a dedicated
ip address and a certificate). They charge me a small amount (55,-
euro’s) a year for this certificate.
If this it what’s needed I can say yes or no. But I’m not sure if this
is correct. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Best regards,
Leendert

Hello
I have been fully committed to EGW for over a year now, and staff
where I work like the workflow features of EGW. To be honest, they
would really rather have a “more like gmail” email client.
The info you are looking for is your host’s FQDN. In our location,
that is
https://egw.bms.bc.ca/egroupware/groupdav.php/“myusername”/calendar -
Note that in my particular case, egroupware is in a directory name
"egroupware" rather than “egw”; an artifact of my server install.
If you don’t have a host with a FQDN, you can test by using the IP
address, IE -
https://123.321.123.321/egw/groupdav.php/“username”/calendar
Hope that helps you.
regards
Ken

Subject: [eGroupWare-users] Instancename
Hi,
installed and starting to work with egroupware, I’m impressed!
Now I like to sync with my Blackberry Playbook.
I can’t find any info on that so I started with the Thunderbird
connection.
The info I need is
https://“instancename”.egroupware.de/egw/groupdav.php/“username”/calendar/
Where do I find “instancename”? Is it somewhere in my config or
preferences?
Any pointer would be appreciated!
Best regards,
Leendert
