First, some server side software versions:
gentoo linux, 2.6.24-gentoo-r8
apache-2.2.6
mysql-5.0.44
PEAR-PEAR-1.6.2-r1
PEAR-HTTP_WebDAV_Server-1.0.0_rc4
eGroupWare 1.5.010
Now client side versions:
Internet Explorer 6, 7
Now the observations:
- Internet Explorer seems to have difficulty downloading attachments from Tracker tickets over https.
- IE does not have this problem when accessing the same content over http.
- IE does not have this problem if the attachment is an image.
- Specifically I see IE fail to download an attachment from the Tracker over https if the attachment is a .doc, .ppt, .zip, .xls (just about anything else).
- Safari and Firefox do not have this problem.
When clicking an https link to an attachment using IE, IE opens a new browser window, then a file download dialog over that, then an error dialog over that that says:
"Internet explorer cannot download [filename] from [servername]
Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."
I have examined the apache https logs, and I see 200 result codes and correct content lengths in response to the requests from IE as they come in. So the error message displayed by IE is not accurate.
I noticed the webdav.php implementation changed between eGroupWare 1.4 and eGroupWare 1.5. We did not see this problem with eGroupWare 1.4.
Any help is appreciated, as our recent upgrade to 1.5 (wonderful Tracker enhancements!) has introduced this unexpected problem.
Thanks!
Rob
