Kernel Upgrade Failure

I am trying to update kernels from linux-image-6.1.0.18 to linux-image-6-1.0-40 on Debian 12 but upgrading I get stuck in a boot loop, any one experiencing this?

It would be best if you first restored your backup.

Then check whether you had enough hard drive space on the system before the update.

Otherwise, you should also be able to select a specific kernel when booting…

@StefanU I do know this is the eGroupware community support forum. This question pertains to the Debian host system for the eGroupware Docker install. I used a stripped down Debian 12 install under your recommendation when I first began using eGroupware. I was wondering if anyone else had encountered the same problem sorry if posting this here is a problem.

Like others, I regularly perform system updates on my installations.

A kernel update is usually a safe thing to do. I haven’t had such a problem in the last 20 years.

Can you restore the system from a backup?

What about your hard drive space?

Can you select the required kernel when booting?

This is a VM so I have a checkpoint I created prior to running apt upgrade. I have reverted the VM and it runs fine on the prior kernel. I have tried doing the upgrade by itself with the same results. I currently have kernel updates on hold in apt. There is plenty of hard disk space on the VM and the host system. I also regularly update kernels on many Linux virtual machines and have never encountered this issue. The only thing I can think is that the kernel versions are too far apart.
