It is used to encrypt the session data. I has to be a different value
then the session-id, because that is already used to identify the
session file, and can therefore not be used for that purpose.
If you dont deal with encrypted sessions or not want to change anything
in EGroupwares session class, there no need to care for kp3, beside
useing egw::link() to create links containing sessionid & kp3, if no
cookies are used.

kp3 is used in the authentication subsystem. It is assigned in
phpgwapi/inc/class.egw_session.inc.php
