Memcached session handler

I noticed in the list of new feature that egroupware has it’s “own memcached session handler”.

1-Does that mean that the installation of memcached is recommended to take advantage of this feature?

2-If yes to above then is it simply “yum -y install memcached” then “memcached -d -u root” to get it running, then “service httpd reload” so that the webserver loads it?

3-Or do I have to download and install PECL Memcache and put “extension=memcache.so” into the php.ini file.

You guidance is appreciated.

At the moment the only benefit from memcached is, it works with multiple
webservers, eg. a cluster serving eGW

You need that extension and add memchaned as session handler in your php.ini

I hope that someone is still reading and/or replying to this post. I have memcached installed and functioning but since the installation am unable to login to eGroupware.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
