Missing Calendar Details After Restore

Hello

I have a customer running 1.8.004.

We needed to rollback to a backup from three days ago and ran the restore job from the admin console.

The customer can now no longer view information on the ‘Details’ tab on any Calendar entries older than the restore date. New entries are fine - you can hover over the Calendar entry or look at the ‘Details’ tab and see the text. Any historic entries do not display.

They use the ‘Details’ tab to record information about the outcome of appointments so it is quite a crucial record.

If I run a SQL query against the Calendar records I can see the information is present so the database did restore correctly and fully.

I have tried resizing the ‘Details’ box and also checked to make sure the text is simply not displaying as ‘white on white’ but it seems it is simply not being pulled into the display.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to why this is happening and how we can fix it?

Just to add some info:

I have created a VM with the same OS and an upgraded version of eGroupware (1.8.007) and restored a new MySQL dump of the database and I have the same problem.

This implies it has to be something in the database records but I can’t see any difference in the old, non-displaying calendar records and ones which are newly added.

If any one has any suggestions at all then please let me know. I am really stumped here.

Hi - I think I have isolated the problem.

When there is a calendar Details field which contains the ‘£’ currency symbol then it suppresses the display of the field in eGroupware.

I have set the Forced Preferences to be UK based with ‘£’ as the currency and so forth but it hasn’t helped.

To no avail I also have set some locale settings in php.ini:

mbstring.language = English
mbstring.encoding_translation = On

I am not sure where this stopped working but having search and replaced all 11,000 ‘£’ symbols with ‘$’ I am quite confident this is problem.

A slight fly in the oinment is that if I add a ‘£’ to a working calendar entry then it continues to display it happily even after export/importing the database. The problematic ‘£’ look perfectly fine in the SQL dump however.

Any ideas much appreciated!

OK when I run a SQL query from the console a ‘bad’ Calendar detail displays this:

‘�185’

A good one displays this:

‘£50’

The SQL import is has ‘SET NAMES utf8’ and each table section has ‘SET character_set_client = utf8’.

When I look at the SQL dump file using vi the ‘£’ looks fine so it seems like it is the MySQL server which is not presenting this character correctly?

Once again… Any suggestions much appreciated!

OK finally solved this and putting a note here for anyone who has the same problem in the future:

When mysqldump (or the egroupware database export function) runs it inserts ‘utf-8’ as the encoding. My database was using ‘latin1’ in fact so when the data was reimported it did not recognise the ‘£’ sign and this caused no data to be returned for columns containing them.

If the export is done using MySQL (mysqldump) then edit the header of the .sql file to read:

/*!40101 SET NAMES latin1 */;

If you are restoring an egroupware export then change the header to read:

version: 1.8.004
charset: latin1
