Hi folks,
just committed a new projectmanager feature to trunk. It’s called “element roles” and was given to the community by Inspections Unlimited. Many thanks for sponsoring a new feature.
What are element roles used for?
Many of you already know the document merge feature to auto-create documents out of addressbook. Element roles (shorthand: eroles) is a more sophisticated extension of this feature which can be used in project manager. Just define element roles for elements in a project list. Create documents (*.rtf, *.txt, …) with fields like $$erole/seller/n_fn$$ (where “seller” is the erole name in this example) and upload the document in filemanager. Afterwards, documents or even serial letters can be created out of a project with just a few clicks.
The current implementation only supports addressbook entries for element roles. But it’s intented to be used for more elements applications in future (e.g. infolog, calendar,…). The code is already prepared. Also, the project’s fields themselves should be supported. My first focus was on the element roles so this will also be implemented later.
Hope this makes usage of projectmanager more valuable for some users. The main target of users will be those which have a set of default documents or serial letters which will be spread individually to customers.
Thanks for listening…
