Hi David,
we (Stylite) are currently replacing old filemanager with a solution
that does file- and document-management under a single frontend with
multiple backends.
The backends can be mounted everywhere inside the virtual filesystem
(much like you know it from Linux). We currently have a non-versioning
backend (sqlfs) which stores metadata in the database and the actual
file contents either in the filesystem or the DB too.
Before the release I want to have the ability to mount regular
filesystems into the vfs with a given owner, groups and eventually
readonly (like you can to it with vfat under linux). We need that for
content management.
An other planned feature are symlinks, which will allow to write a
(pseudo) filesystem backend making the attachment tree of the apps more
comfortable browsable. It’s already available under /apps/appname, but
it shows the id instead the title of the entry.
There are plans about more DMS related features:
http://www.egroupware-support.eu/?page_name=FilemanagerCall
Unfortunately there’s not much participation from the eGW users
So today the filemanager in 1.6 does not yet have all the features of
MyDMS. It has all the features of the old filemanager, plus the ability
to create a free directory hierarchy (beside the home dirs).
We are still striving for a sustainable business model to finance the
future development of eGroupware. It’s nice to have a few hundred
thousand installation, but you can not live from just that fact.
Currently we use a double strategy of sponsored development and hosting
eGroupware (ready to go): http://www.egroupware-support.eu/?category_id=241
The fact that we use the money raised by the hosting for the further
development of eGroupware, has the downside that we have higher cost
then everyone else just using or hosting eGroupware. Though more and
more companies recognize that hosting with us, is an investment in the
future of eGroupware. Beside that we have a unique knowledge about
eGroupware, noone else can offer.

The question is how did you upgrade from svn?
If you use svn switch eg. via the svn-helper.php script in the eGW
directory, MyDMS is still there.
If you make a new checkout via
http://svn.egroupware.org/egroupware/trunk/aliases/default you only get
the default apps, from which MyDMS is no longer a part. You can easly
check out MyDMS in you checkout of the default apps:
cd /egroupware/directory
svn co http://svn.egroupware.org/trunk/mydms
Ralf
That’s what happened! I did simply mv the 1.4 install and perform a new
checkout of 1.5. Mystery solved.
That brings me back to my earlier dms question. If mydms has been dropped, that
document manager should we be using now?
Thanks Ralf.
