Hi Raphael,
current plan is to create 1.8 based on the open source parts of the
commercial EPL-9.2 (released end of last year).
We will probably have a single release candidate beginning of August and
the release around mid August 2010.
Plan is also to have regular bugfix and maintenance releases every 2-4
weeks, as we have them for our commercial packages.
Investing resources in backporting more fixes into 1.6, will only slow
down the release of the 1.8, as our resources are limited.

If this is true, I would have to fix the lightning issue with a patch for
1.6.003. In this case I would be grateful for a hint where in the code
this bug was fixed.
