Hi Nathan,
I am surely curious about this and would be interested in experimenting
with it. – lets say as an comparison/alternative to ckErp
–
I have not so much an interest in the manufacture parts, but I mainly
need core ledger stuff plus the standard set of modules around it. And
my experiments are more tended towards with xbrl report import/export
generation and soap connections to some other small financial/stock
systems.
I am surely also interested in your general “approach” of
designing/rewriting the webErp software into an egw variant. Or did you
just started from scratch?
regards
Jan
I am partly done an ERP system built on the eGroupWare framework
(http://egroupware.org). While it’s not publicized yet (pre-alpha,
active development), if there’s enough interest, we’d be happy to put
it up and let others contribute. We aim to duplicate most of the
functionality in webERP (http://weberp.org). Planned features include:
- Fine ACL
Access controls can be set by users and groups, to specific
functions. You can, for example set the Receiving staff (a group) to
only be able to receive, except for John (a user), who does the
returns and needs extra access
- Group managers
Access can be granted by managers, rather than the system
administrator having to deal with it.
- Manufacturing
We need it. It will be done. With work orders and work centers,
multiple locations, stock managed in your units of measure at
multiple locations.
- Bill of Materials
Products can be manufactured from Bill of Materials, which persist,
so changes can be tracked. If you switch from using the ACME widget
to using the BINGO widget, all future builds (and you can specify
the start date) will use the new BoM, leaving a trail that can be
tracked, and not causing production sudden problems.
- API
We’ve got one. Clear separation between modules. Re-use instead of
re-code. I have to be honest, when I was told I would have to
support and extend webERP, I wanted to cry. Using the eGroupWare
framework gives us access to a template system, the ACLs, the
framework, as well as standard groupware apps, such as Calendar,
addressbook, and way more.
- User Interface
While not such a big deal to some, the eGroupWare framework gives
translations, user-choosable date formating, and themes. It features
the idots and idots2 themes.
A payroll module is on the list, but I won’t have time to do it
myself for a while, hence the reason for an early “coming out”. If
you guys have a burning desire for a payroll module (particularly
with respect to manufacturing), or any other modules, we would love
to have contributions.
While there is already ckERP for eGroupWare, it gives more emphasis
on sales, less on manufacturing. No work orders.
Some preliminary shots to whet your appetite:
(idots theme, inventory module)
(idots2 theme, with multiple windows: Accounts Payable and Inventory)
