PHP upgrade error on php-posix dependency eGroupWare

Hi,

I am running eGroupWare 1.8 for some time now: working great!
now I want to upgrade my PHP installation on my server (to version 5.2.17), but I cannot because yum is reporting a dependency of eGroupWare on the php-posix rpm.

As it turns out, php-posix is now part of the php-process RPM and for that reason the dependency cannot be satisfied and php cannot be upgraded.

Is this a know issue o is there some sort of work around?

hi ruud,
what distri are you using,?
are you using the native php packages of that distribution?
if not which repository are you using for upgrading?

sorry for the late response, somehow wasn’t notified via mail (probably forgot to check that option)
I am using ClearOS 5.2. I have replaced the out-of-the box version of PHP with version 5.2.9 due to hosted websites that need a higher version.
This is the last version that works. Tried to install the 5.3 and the 5.2.13 and currently the 5.2.17 version but they all have the same problem.
I am using the packages that Tim over at the ClearOS forum compiled and assembled: http://www.clearfoundation.com/component/option,com_kunena/Itemid,232/catid,17/func,view/id,19846/limit,10/limitstart,20/#23347

I have also tried the Remy Collet versions, but same issue here.

Any advice or pointers are welcome.
There is no functional need for me to upgrade php, but it is a security release and I would like to keep up with that

We usually use the IUS Community Repository for that purpose.
If one package contains other packages it usually “provided” them (in rpm terms). Seems like the packages you use don’t. Maybe you can report that problem, where you got the packages from.

Hi Ralph and Klaus,
Finally was able to install the new version of php. As it turned out, the package was split into a base set of php rpm’s and a set of ‘extras’. The php-process.rpm was in the extras. the update process was also split into two: first the base rpm’s and the second step, the needed extras. But the first never completed (because of the lacking php-process rpm) and for that reason the php-process could also not be installed.
so what I did to fix it is to copy the php-process over to the base files ét voila… updated to 5.2.17
Still had to revert back to 5.2.9 unforunately because eGroupware only showed me a blanc screen, same with php-5.3.5 which I tried after that. Think this is related to with the information I found in the release notes:

PHP 5.3 < 5.3.3 is known to segfault (blank screen) with EGroupware:

* nothing EGroupware can do to fix that :-(
* either use a current 5.2 or at least 5.3.3
* PHP 5.3.3 from openSUSE 11.*, IUS Community repo for RHEL 5 and Mac ports seems to work fine
* there are reports that PHP 5.3.3 from Ubuntu 10.10 or Debian unstable still segfault, some say it is caused by some Debian spezific patches ...
* there are reports PHP 5.3.3-4 currently in Debian sid(unstable) has no more segfaults and might get allowed into Debian 6/Squeeze

hummm… any pointers on how to confirm that this is indeed the segfault error?

A blank screen should show something in the WebServers Error Log.
A segfault shows up there too.
If it is the segfault thing, you should find it there, if not there should be something to give you a clue what caused the blank screen.
