POS terminal

Dear Nathan, developers,

I would like to ask is there any solution for a POS terminal?

For example:

A standard retail shop, where the customer walks around the shop, picks up
products into his cart and goes to the cassa.

The cashier can finish him ( quickly.

This is a little bit different I think, than a service company or wholesale
company.

Probably with a working solution it would be possible to manage several
shops from one central point, even “offline” mode, but this needs a stand
alone POS solution…

(I just think around the possibilities…)

Maybe I used wrong term. Under POS terminal, I mean cash register + bar
scanner etc.

In english POS commonly stands for one of two things. One of them is
Point of Sale
Unfortunately no POS solution for pERP exists. Really all that’s
needed is interface to the hardware and a streamlined UI. pERP should
be able to handle all the rest in the backend.

I have no POS leanings and little experience with them (except old DOS
based stuff).
I like the look of kassanova, and it seems to be able to handle what’s
needed for a POS. Anything more complicated you should talk to
someone anyway. If it can be configured to pull data from pERP, it
looks like it should work. I had a look at the connector
documentation (that’s about all there is) and it looks like it could
be done. The only thing I noticed from the demo that could be an
issue is the ETF doesn’t let you specify which card, which pERP would
like to know.

About “offline” mode - based on the complexity of developing an
offline mode vs a reliable internet connection, I’ve always gone for
strengthening the connection. MySQL does have distribution & syncing
stuff, so you could put a local database node in each location just in
case (might speed things up as well), but I’ve never actually tried.

I sent Kassanova as and example I found quickly.

Meanwhile I found other solutions, even web based (flash) software which
seems fine.

Anyway, I am not clear about the connector possibilities.
I mean, mass product update possibilities, manipulating groups of products,
customers, suppliers etc.

Could you point some specific documentation if any?

That’s all I could find.

Basically I am interesting about perp’s possibilities and gateways, for
example:

how to import/export customers, suppliers (I know the addressbook)

import/export/place quotes, orders, invoices outside from egw/perp

import/export, mass manipulate products (change prices automatically for
example, depends on exchange rate etc.

Unfortunately I am busy nowadays, I have to read all perp documentation
carefully.

Basically I am interesting about perp’s possibilities and gateways,

pERP has lots of possibilities, not so many gateways. There’s been
some discussion about making some sort of externally available API so
pERP can talk to other systems. I’ve never tried to interface an eGW
app with an outside app.

To change prices automatically, check out Admin -> Sales Orders ->
Price Calculations.
